Martin Asbæk Projects is pleased to present "Summer in the City – MAP Group Show".
Most of the artists we are working with have already been presented in solo exhibitions at MAP. However, the current group show is the first complete presentation of the gallery.
New works are on show: sculpture, photography, drawing, painting as well as more unusual techniques like embroidery.
Norwegian/Moroccan artist
Hans Hamid Rasmussen, who participated at the Sao Paulo Biennial, 2004 shows one of his beautifully embroidered narrations on cultural identity. Patiently created with needle and silk thread.
Danish artist
Trine Søndergaard's highly explosive photographic works focus on the instant moment. When buildings, trees or other "unwanted" objects are being wiped out by dynamite as a result of urban planning or changes in garden designs.
Even more dramatic are the "car crash" photos by
Nicolai Howalt. They interpret the fatal moment when your luck runs out.
In November MAP presents the co-project "How to Hunt" by Howalt/Søndergaard at
Paris Photo, where the gallery has been selected for STATEMENT focusing on photography from the Nordic countries.
"Summer in the City" is also including works by e.g. German artists
Hanna Schwarz,
Martin Liebscher,
Berta Fischer and
Sabine Dehnel. The latter is publishing her book "Anderswo – Malerei und Fotografie 2002-2006" in Hatje Cantz Verlag this autumn.
September 29 – October 4, MAP participates at
Art Forum Berlin. The gallery shares a booth with Galerie Asbæk and presents
Berta Fischer at the special exhibition BIG CITY LAB.
Her remarkably light sculptures in fluorescent colours will also "illuminate" the current show in MAP - mapping the track of the gallery.
