Born 1952 in Copenhagen. Lives and works in Copenhagen and Mallorca. Educated at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, 1971-76.

Anne Tholstrups paintings are composed of simple forms. Earlier works contained figurative elements, but gradually they have been left out in favour of a more abstract approach. Lines and broad colour bands run through the paintings, some with pattern-like or cracked surfaces, others self-coloured and translucent. Tension is created by the opposing more fuzzy-edged forms and splatches, and through the contrast between light and dark tones in the otherwise subtle colours.
